Former Tottenham star banned from driving for FOURTH time

Ex-Premier League striker Jermaine Defoe, 42, has been barred from driving for a year after being clocked speeding at 82mph in a 70mph zone.

Defoe, who notched 20 goals in 57 England appearances, was driving a Land Rover in Wormley, Hertfordshire, last October.

In court, his barrister said the ex-Spurs player deserved credit for pleading guilty.

Defoe - who was not in court - was fined £660 plus £90 costs and a £266 victim surcharge.

He was also slapped with three points on his licence - on top of the nine he already had.

Defoe was previously banned from the road for six months in July 2008 for speeding.

Defoe was most recently seen at the Stadium of Light watching his former club beat Coventry to take a trip to Wembley, and is excited to see what the young team can do next.

“What an experience for these young players,” Defoe told Sunderland’s in-house media after the semi-final win over two legs against Coventry City.

“To get over the line, go to Wembley and do it there, it’s been a long time coming. To have that experience is something so special.”
