British Formula 1 driver Ollie Bearman was involved in a frightening incident at the Japanese Grand Prix when his Haas collided with the barrier.
The 20-year-old was forced to take evasive action to avoid Franco Colapinto's Alpine, which sent his car onto the grass before spinning into the barriers.
The incident occurred at the Spoon curve on lap 22.
Race traffic control launched an investigation into the incident.
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu described the moment on Sky Sports' coverage.
He said: "He had huge closing speed against the car in front, so had to take avoiding action and went on the grass and crashed. Scary."
Bearman managed to climb out of his stricken car unaided, though stewards quickly came to his assistance as he struggled visibly with his movement.
The young Briton was seen limping heavily as he made his way towards the medical centre for assessment.

Medical staff promptly performed an X-ray, which ruled out fractures from the impact.
Doctors diagnosed the Haas driver with a contusion to his right knee.
The incident triggered an immediate safety car period, which proved advantageous for several competitors.
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli capitalised on the situation by pitting and emerging in first position.

Lewis Hamilton also took the opportunity to make a pit stop.
However, the safety car deployment proved catastrophic for those who had already pitted, particularly Oscar Piastri and George Russell.
Mercedes had brought Russell in just moments before the incident, prompting an exasperated "Unbelievable!" over team radio.

Antonelli went on to win the Japanese Grand Prix, becoming the youngest driver ever to top the Formula One standings.
The 19-year-old Italian crossed the finish line a commanding 14.5 seconds ahead of his nearest rival to secure consecutive triumphs following his breakthrough win in China a fortnight earlier.
Speaking over team radio after taking the chequered flag, Antonelli was jubilant but candid about the circumstances of his triumph.
He said: "Wahoo, yes man! Let's go man. I was lucky with the Safety Car but the pace was unbelievable at the end. Thanks to the boys and girls at Brackley and Brixworth. What a car. Thank you so much."
