Former Scunthorpe United academy star dies aged 23 as club pays heartbreaking tribute

Scunthorpe United have issued a heartfelt tribute following the death of former player Levi Gallimore, who has passed away at the age of 23.

The young striker, who came through the club's academy system, spent two seasons with the Irons before departing.

In their official statement, the club expressed their sorrow at the news.

The statement read: "Everyone at Scunthorpe United is deeply saddened to learn of this tragic news and sends our deepest condolences to Levi's family and friends at this difficult time."

Gallimore had previously been part of Brentford's youth setup before making the move to Scunthorpe.

He left the West London club's academy setup at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season.

The young forward impressed during a trial period with the Lincolnshire club, earning himself a place in their youth ranks.

His performances were convincing enough for Scunthorpe to offer him a scholarship agreement, which he signed in May 2018.

The deal marked the beginning of a two-year spell at Glanford Park, during which he established himself as a promising talent within the academy structure.

His time with the Irons saw him develop as a goalscoring threat in youth football competitions.

During his debut campaign in 2018-19, Gallimore found the net on six occasions across youth competitions, scoring four times in the Youth Alliance League and twice in the FA Youth Cup.

His second season proved even more prolific, with the striker registering seven goals from just 11 appearances.
