World Cup day seven: All the latest as England prepare for seismic Croatia showdown

Today is the day.

England, after days of waiting, will finally kick off their World Cup campaign tonight when they face off against Croatia in Dallas.

The Three Lions enter the clash dreaming of ending a 60-year wait for a major trophy.

And Croatia will carry some bad memories for England supporters.

They infamously overcame the Three Lions back in 2018, when Gareth Southgate was in charge, to reach the World Cup final on that occasion.

England are stacked with A-listers in every department, from Harry Kane to Jude Bellingham, Jordan Pickford to Declan Rice.

But how they fare is something only time will tell.

Stay up to date with all of our coverage below.

World Cup fans were left furious after Lionel Messi escaped punishment for a challenge on Algeria defender Aissa Mandi during Argentina's 3-0 win in Kansas City.

The 38-year-old appeared to catch Mandi on the calf and Achilles while attempting to win the ball, but referee Szymon Marciniak took no action and VAR did not intervene.

Supporters vented their frustration online, with one writing: "If that was any player besides Messi it would've been red."

Lionel Messi speaks out after matching World Cup goal record

Lionel Messi says everything he achieves from now on is a "bonus" after marking Argentina's World Cup opener with the first hat-trick of his illustrious tournament career.

The 38-year-old inspired a 3-0 victory over Algeria in Kansas City, earning his 200th cap and drawing level with Miroslav Klose on 16 World Cup goals.

Having already won every major honour in football, Messi admitted he is simply enjoying what is likely to be his final World Cup.

"Everything I'm experiencing now is a bonus," he said after another mesmerising display for the defending champions.
