John McEnroe arrived at Wimbledon dressed entirely in black on Tuesday, joking he was "mourning" after the United States crashed out of the World Cup in emphatic fashion.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion appeared on the BBC's coverage ahead of the women's quarter-final between Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff, but football quickly became the talking point after the USA's heavy defeat to Belgium.
The tournament co-hosts saw their World Cup campaign come to a disappointing end in Seattle, where Belgium cruised to a 4-1 victory thanks to a Charles De Ketelaere double before Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku completed the rout.
Lukaku even appeared to mock US President Donald Trump with his goal celebration after scoring Belgium's fourth.
McEnroe, however, admitted the result had left him deflated.
The 67-year-old, wearing a black T-shirt beneath a black overshirt despite the warm conditions at the All England Club, explained his outfit when presenter Isa Guha noticed he had abandoned the Oasis shirt he had worn during Monday's coverage.
After being welcomed onto the programme, McEnroe exchanged jokes with fellow American Tracy Austin before Guha asked: "What happened to your Oasis t-shirt though?"
McEnroe replied: "Well that was for England. This is black in mourning for our US team which bombed out.

"I fortunately didn't stay up to watch it cause I wanted to get prepped for this and get ready and do a couple of hours of studying this morning."
Austin immediately interrupted with a laugh, replying: "Oh yeah right!"
McEnroe continued: "What are you laughing at? But you know it was sort of disappointing to look and see 4-1 Belgium.

"Back to the drawing board. It reminds me, we need someone to win a major in the men's side.
"It's been 23 years since Andy Roddick won. We're pushing, we're praying. Taylor Fritz has a shot this year, absolutely!"
Later in the day's coverage, McEnroe returned to the subject while commentating on Jannik Sinner's victory over Jan-Lennard Struff.
"Thank god I went to bed before that. 4-1, to Belgium? Come on!" he said.
"We've got a ways to go. It's like the men's tour in the tennis, it's been 23 years, even worse in soccer, football.

"Oh boy. But it's all good, it's positive, it looks a great World Cup so that's the good news."
The defeat marked a painful end to the USA's hopes of progressing on home soil after Belgium produced one of the standout performances of the knockout stage.
McEnroe's previous appearance in an Oasis shirt had come after England's dramatic victory over Mexico, which secured Thomas Tuchel's side a place in the World Cup quarter-finals.
England will now face Norway for a place in the last four, while Belgium's reward for eliminating the USA is a blockbuster showdown with Spain.
