Former Arsenal star Matteo Guendouzi appeared to be targeted with a flying kick by a Lyon coach after provoking a furious post-match brawl during Fenerbahce’s dramatic Champions League triumph.
The Turkish giants secured their place in the league phase with a 2-1 victory at the Groupama Stadium, completing a 3-2 aggregate win over their French opponents.
But Fenerbahce’s celebrations descended into chaos after Guendouzi taunted the home supporters while heading towards the tunnel at full-time.
Footage filmed from the stands appears to show Lyon goalkeeping coach Antonio Ferreira emerging from the tunnel before aiming a flying kick in the direction of the midfielder.
Ferreira was identified by French newspaper L’Equipe as the staff member involved in the extraordinary confrontation.
Players and coaches from both clubs immediately charged towards the tunnel as a mass melee erupted.
Several punches appeared to be thrown while Ferreira was forced against a wall, with security personnel desperately attempting to separate those involved and restore order.
Guendouzi had been at the heart of the hostility throughout a fiery evening in Lyon.
The 27-year-old previously spent two seasons with Marseille, Lyon’s bitter rivals, and was predictably subjected to boos and abuse from the home crowd.
He responded by appearing to raise his middle finger towards supporters both before kick-off and during the match.
Reports in France also claimed Guendouzi shouted "we’re f*****g you" towards Lyon’s players after Fenerbahce established a 2-0 lead.
Tensions boiled over on the pitch following the final whistle, when several Lyon players confronted and shoved the former Arsenal midfielder.

Fenerbahce stars, including goalkeeper Ederson and striker Romelu Lukaku, quickly intervened to defend their team-mate.
Guendouzi was reportedly urged to calm down but continued celebrating and appeared to make another provocative reference to Marseille while walking away.
His actions triggered further ugly scenes and could leave both Lyon and Fenerbahce facing disciplinary action from UEFA.
Lyon captain Corentin Tolisso subsequently accused the France international of lacking humility in victory.
"You have to stay humble in victory, go celebrate that with your team in the locker room," Tolisso said.
"Well done, congratulations to them, but there’s no real need to do that."
Controversy has followed Guendouzi throughout his career.
He joined Arsenal from Lorient in 2018 but was frozen out by Mikel Arteta two years later following an infamous confrontation with Brighton striker Neal Maupay.
Guendouzi was caught grabbing Maupay by the throat after Arsenal’s defeat at the Amex Stadium and never represented the Gunners again.
The midfielder, who was also accused of taunting Brighton’s players about their wages during the match, was subsequently loaned to Hertha Berlin before moving to Marseille.
He had previously been excluded from Lorient’s senior squad for more than three months following a dressing-room dispute.
Fenerbahce will now enter Thursday’s Champions League draw in pot three, while Lyon must settle for Europa League football after their dramatic elimination.
