Former Manchester United star Paul Pogba is set to have his contract "terminated" after suffering a fresh injury.
The 33-year-old, now playing for AS Monaco, has been trying to return to the elite level after a doping ban.
However, his time with the Ligue 1 side has been turbulent, with the club seeing the pre-season period as a chance to assess whether the midfielder can continue with them.
Pogba featured for 45 minutes in one game, but a knee injury last campaign has kept him sidelined for four matches.
The midfielder is also understood to have collapsed in severe pain during a training session, according to L'Equipe and Nicematin.
It is reported that Monaco now wants to "mutually terminate his deal" by the start of September and allow him to find a new club.
The decision now lies with an injured Pogba, with the club informing his camp of their intentions.
The Frenchman is understood to be earning less than £44,000-per-week at Monaco, way below the £290,000-per-week he was once on while at United.

Pogba returned to football in March 2025 after his doping ban was reduced on appeal.
He only featured in six matches last year due to consistent injury problems.
Question marks now hang over whether Pogba calls it quits on his career or looks for a new club.
The Frenchman was offered to MLS clubs in the United States earlier this week, according to the Daily Mail.
Despite a career heavily hit by injuries, the Frenchman still boasts several honours and memorable moments in the past 15 years.
Pogba won the Serie A four times and the Coppa Italia twice and was a runner-up in the Champions League in 2015 while with Juventus.
Upon returning to Manchester United for £89million, the Frenchman won the League Cup and the Europa League in a double-winning campaign.
His biggest success would come with the French national team.
Pogba lifted the World Cup in 2018, scoring in the final against Croatia with a brilliant outside-the-box strike.
He won the Nations League in 2021 and has a European Championship runners-up medal after losing to Portugal in 2016 on home soil.
The midfielder played 91 times for his national team, scoring 11 goals and is one of the best midfielders for his country in the last decade.
