Jamal Musiala reveals medical diagnosis after Bayern Munich star collapses for second time in four days

Jamal Musiala has revealed he has been diagnosed with a neurological condition after collapsing twice in the space of just four days.

The Bayern Munich star sparked concern when he went down during Tuesday's friendly victory over FC Heidenheim, having suffered a similar episode against RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Musiala was able to recover and leave the pitch on both occasions, but the incidents prompted questions over the 23-year-old's health.

Bayern sporting chief Max Eberl subsequently confirmed the Bundesliga giants were aware of Musiala's situation and indicated the Germany international would address the matter himself.

Musiala has now revealed he is experiencing absence seizures caused by what he described as a "neurological dysfunction".

However, the former England youth international sought to reassure supporters that he is receiving medical care and remains optimistic about his recovery.

"First things first – I'm doing well! I'm especially grateful for your messages and support!" Musiala wrote on Instagram.

"I understand that many of you are worried. I'd like to alleviate those concerns today and explain something.

"I've been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction.

"These can lead to the recent episodes, like the one against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim.

"I know they seem scary at first glance – but for me, they're currently just part of my everyday life. I'm receiving excellent medical treatment and am very optimistic."

Musiala added that Bayern, his family and friends had been supporting him since the diagnosis.

The attacking midfielder also revealed he had been cleared by neurologists to continue playing football, insisting it was his own decision to carry on with his normal routine while undergoing treatment.

"Importantly, there are no further health risks," he continued.

"In close consultation and regular communication with the experts, it was my personal wish to face this challenge and, with the clearance from the neurologists, to continue focusing on what helps me most in my recovery: simply living my daily life and pursuing my passion for playing football.

"I've taken responsibility for that. Overall, I have a very good feeling and I'm on the right track."

Absence seizures typically involve brief periods of altered awareness and can be easy to miss because they do not necessarily involve the convulsions associated with some other types of seizure.

Musiala made clear that he intends to keep concentrating on football as Bayern pursue further silverware.

"What helps me most on this path is continuing to chase victories and titles with my team and your amazing support," he said.

The midfielder concluded his message by asking supporters to respect his privacy as he continues working with Bayern and medical specialists.

"I hope you can understand me better now," he added.

"At the same time, I ask for your understanding that I would like to keep this matter within my closest circle of confidants, the club, and the experts. Thank you so much, J."
