Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez rushed to hospital after horror collision against Everton

Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was rushed hospital following a horror collision in the west London club's clash against Everton on Saturday.

Manager Xabi Alonso confirmed the Argentine international was to hospital for "precautionary tests" after sustaining what he described as a concussion during the Blues' 2-0 win at the Hill Dickinson stadium.

The injury occurred in the 68th minute after the shot stopper attempted to claim a cross from former Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Martinez collided with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, with play stopped for 10 minutes while he received treatment.

Branthwaite was able to carry on after being treated by medics during the lengthy stoppage.

Martinez received oxygen on the pitch, before being carried off the pitch on a stretcher after being unfit to continue.

The Argentine was substituted for Mike Penders, who made his Premier League debut for Chelsea.

The Belgian keeper saw out the remainder of the match, helping the Blues secure their first clean sheet in the league for more than nine months.

After play resumed, Pedro Neto bagged his second of the match to ensure his side took all three points back to the capital.

Asked about Martinez's injury after the game, the Chelsea boss said: "It was a concussion, but beyond that I do not know. I have only seen one clip of the incident, so we need to wait.

"What we know is that he left the stadium conscious and is now in hospital undergoing precautionary tests.

"We need to wait. Hopefully it will not be too serious, but at the moment we just have to wait."

Matchwinner Neto paid tribute to his teammate in his post-match interview with TNT Sports.

The Portuguese winger said: “We are really pleased. It is a shame for Emi but we wish him all the best. This win is for him. We are really happy but of course our thoughts are for him.

“It’s in his honour. We needed a clean sheet. We needed a good game. Emi deserved this.

"Mike (Penders) who came in deserved this as well. So we are really happy.”

It remains unknown whether Martinez will be fit enough to feature in Chelsea's looming clashes against Tottenham, Liverpool and Man United.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Erling Haaland bagged a brace as scandal-hit Man City beat Ipswich Town 3-2 at the Etihad to secure their seventh strait Premier League victory.

Liverpool came from behind to clinch a 2-1 win over nine-man Brentford, with Alexander Isak rifling a left-footed effort into the bottom-right hand corner to grab his fifth goal of the season.

And in west London, Alex Iwobi scored from the edge of the box to hand struggling Fulham a vital three points against newly promoted Hull City.
